Looks great and solid quality

I checked out a lot of reviews before buying this, especially since I saw that it gets returned a lot. Still, it was the only option that really worked for us. Overall, this is a solid product and the price is fair! I've put together Sauder items before, so I wasn't too worried about the assembly despite what I'd read. Just a heads up, it arrives in a HEAVY box. You'll need two people for this because it's a large, heavy cabinet, and having someone help you makes it way easier. Also, be careful to set the pieces down on a blanket or cardboard to avoid scratches, which are easy to get due to the material. Once it was all put together, it turned out perfectly. I kind of wish I'd used wood glue on the dowels as a precaution against any loosening later. I spent a couple of months debating whether to buy this because of the reviews, but we're happy with our choice. If you're not confident with putting together flat pack furniture, you might want to think twice. Following the instructions closely is key—that's likely where some of the negative comments come from. The doors align well, and it holds a good amount of clothing while looking neat and clean.

No issues up to now

My original order got lost during delivery, so I had to reach out to customer service for a replacement. Not Hawkins Woodshop's fault, but it was a bit frustrating. The pieces arrived in good shape and putting it together was pretty straightforward. Some parts of the instructions were a bit unclear, but that was mainly because I wasn’t paying enough attention to the text. I managed to build the whole thing myself, but I did need a hand to move it once it was done. The only tricky part was attaching the doors by myself. Overall, the build quality is decent, but I did notice the triangle piece at the top isn’t perfectly centered—it’s about 2mm off to the left, which stands out to me. You can see the unfinished back of that part too, but it doesn’t bother me since it’s in a corner. The unit isn't completely level, so the gap between the piece and the doors isn't even—smaller on the left side than the right. That’s not a huge deal for me, but it might bug some people. They did include a nylon strap to secure it to the wall to help prevent tipping, but I’m not sure it’s strong enough for a 100-pound wardrobe in a quake. Then again, if there’s an earthquake strong enough to knock that over, I’ll probably be more worried about other things! One last thing, I found it odd that there are multiple spots for the shelf but only one for the clothes rod. I wish the clothes rod was a bit higher so I could place the shelf underneath it.

Great addition for coat storage!

I moved into a place without a closet on the first floor, so I picked this up to serve as my coat closet. Just a heads up, the hanging space is a bit limited because of the drawer underneath, so it’s not ideal for long coats, but it works fine for jackets and my midi-length trench. I had a little hiccup since I forgot to attach the ballast at first—with help, it was easy to lay it on a blanket to work on it. Overall, it was a typical Sauder product with organized parts and detailed instructions (though I didn’t watch the provided video). It took me most of the afternoon since I took my time and cleaned up the mess as I went. It arrived in perfect condition and was even earlier than expected from Hawkins Woodshop! I managed to do most of it solo, but getting help with the door hinges was useful since they rubbed a bit after installation. If possible, I’d recommend having two people to handle the door hinges—one to hold the doors while the other screws them on. Now that it’s put together, it’s pretty heavy so it’s likely staying in my rental for a while, but it’s a great solution for coat storage by the front door. I’ve got hats and scarves up top and plenty of room in the drawer too. I didn’t bolt it to the wall, but I might consider it down the line if I weren’t renting.

Solid and Well-Made!

I have to say, I was a bit worried after reading some of the one-star reviews, but I decided to give this a shot anyway. I’m handy enough to follow instructions and use basic tools, so assembly wasn’t too daunting. Be sure to check the instructions carefully; they warn against trying to stand it up before securing the back piece, which makes total sense. It took a bit of time to put together, but that's because it’s made from solid materials and feels sturdy. I did have some trouble aligning the doors by myself, though, so I’d suggest getting a buddy for that part. Once it's all assembled, it holds my husband's clothes and shoes perfectly without a hint of wobbliness. Just a reminder: don’t over-tighten the screws, or you risk damaging the boards. Overall, I'd say this was a smart purchase for $152—it's a great addition to our space and my husband is really happy with it.

Great addition for coat storage

I recently moved into a place that doesn’t have a first-floor closet, so I got this to serve as a coat closet. Just a heads up, the hanging space is a bit limited because of the drawer below, so it’s not great for really long coats, but it works well for jackets and my midi trench. Assembly was pretty standard for a Sauder piece—everything was well organized, and the instructions were clear (they even had a video, which I didn’t check out). It took me most of the afternoon to put it together since I took my time and cleaned up all the foam and cardboard as I went. The product was in good shape right out of the box and actually arrived a bit earlier than expected. I managed to do most of it solo, but I've had experience with similar furniture. I did need some help adjusting the hinges since the doors rubbed after I put them on. If you can, I’d recommend having two people when attaching the door hinges—one to hold and one to screw them in. This piece is quite heavy once it’s assembled, so I don’t think it’ll be moving anywhere soon! It provides much-needed coat storage right by the front door, and I’ve managed to fit hats and scarves on the top shelf and in the drawer, which has good storage space. I didn’t bolt it to the wall since I’m renting, but that’s something I’d consider if I wasn’t.

Looks great and solid quality

I went through a bunch of reviews and saw some notes about returns on this item, but it really was the best fit for what we needed. Overall, it’s a solid product and priced well! I’ve put together Sauder products before, and despite some complaints about assembly issues, we didn’t face any at all. It comes in a HEAVY box, so I’d recommend having two people to help—it's a big, heavy cabinet. To avoid scratching, lay the pieces on a cardboard or blanket while you work (which makes sense considering the material). Once it was all set up, it looked. I wish I had thought to use wood glue on the dowels for extra security later on. I spent a couple of months weighing my options because of the reviews, but we’re happy with our choice. If you’re not great at assembling flat-pack furniture, you might want to think twice. It’s important to follow the instructions closely—probably explains some of the negative reviews. The doors close evenly, it holds a good amount of clothing, and the overall design is neat and clean.
