Twenty five pairs of shoes take up a startling amount of a hallway when they are lying on the floor. This rack stacks them five tiers high in a footprint 11 inches deep and 38.8 inches wide, standing 36.2 inches tall. That is shallow enough to sit against a hallway wall without narrowing the walkway, and low enough to slide under a row of coat hooks.
Each shelf holds four to five pairs, so the full rack takes 20 to 25 pairs depending on how big the shoes are. The spacing between shelves is 6.7 inches, and that is the number worth paying attention to. It clears sneakers, work boots, flats, and high heels without anyone having to turn a shoe sideways to make it fit. Raised feet leave a gap beneath the bottom shelf, and that gap is where slippers end up living.
The shelves are non-woven fabric stretched over powder coated metal tubes joined by plastic connectors, finished in black. The powder coating is what keeps the frame from rusting in a damp entryway or a garage. Each tier carries up to 11 pounds and the rack carries 55 pounds in total, while the rack itself weighs only 3.3 pounds, so one person can pick it up and move it to another room without help.
Assembly is required but straightforward. Parts arrive in separate labeled bags with instructions, and the box holds the rack and those instructions, nothing else to track down. Two notes from the manufacturer are worth following. Soak the plastic connectors in warm water for a few minutes before you start, especially in a cold room or a cold climate, and go slowly if you ever take the rack apart, since the connectors are the part that breaks. Cleaning is a damp cloth on the metal or the fabric.
