Seventeen bulbs come in the box, sixteen for the strand and one spare, in the S14 shape with an E12 base. They are LED, 1 watt each, running at 3 volts and 2700 Kelvin. That color temperature is the warm white that reads like old incandescent bistro lighting rather than the blue-white cast of cheap outdoor LEDs. The bulbs are shatterproof, so a stray basketball is not a cleanup job.
Charging works two ways. Eight hours of sunlight fills the panel, or you can charge over USB in four hours when the sky has been gray for a week. On a full charge the strand runs 20 or more hours. The panel detaches, which means you can carry just the panel inside to a USB port instead of taking down the whole run.
The remote handles the rest. Three brightness levels: soft, bright, and super bright. Three lighting modes: breathing, flashing, and constant. Four timer settings at 2, 4, 6, and 8 hours, so no separate timer is needed. Soft mode also stretches battery life on nights when full brightness is more than the space needs.
