Beautiful chairs and great support when needed
Got these chairs about a year ago after checking out a bunch of options, and they were definitely the best choice. They showed up in shape and took maybe 5 minutes each to put together. They look great with my countertops and work well in the space. I treated them with Scotch Guard so they're easy to keep clean. One thing the reviews mentioned was that the footrest isn't meant to be used like a step, and sure enough, with four boys running around, one of them started rocking the chairs back and forth on it pretty hard. That ended up cracking the base on one chair, so it wasn't stable anymore. It was our fault for not using it the right way, but I was bummed about it. I reached out to Colby to ask if I could buy a replacement base, and they actually sent one out free of charge. Got here quick and was simple to swap in. Now all three chairs are back in great shape. I really love these chairs! They’re the height and the teal color is just right. Assembly was a breeze, and they look great at our dining table. Plus, they’re comfortable. Fortunately, everything was packed well, except for one small decorative piece that was broken. I sent a picture to Hawkins, and they were about it. They are light enough my kids can scoot them and cleaning around them will be easy. At first glance the fabric has a slight velvety weathered look but that’s not how it feels. For the price I wasn't expecting much, to be honest, since stools like these come in so many price points. But most of the reviews were positive, except for the few that reported shipping damage, and a couple that claimed difficulty in putting them together, so I crossed my fingers and ordered them. My own experience was good. There was absolutely no damage, and the quality control was high, with more than adequate packaging to keep the product from being dinged during shipping. Instructions were simple, and so was the process of putting them together. All the parts were included and well marked; I only needed to install and tighten the four screws, and an Allen wrench was included for each chair to do that job. (I ended up with six Allen wrenches, kind of a waste.)Because the color was described as Teal I was hoping it would actually be more of a greyed greenish blue, and that is exactly what it is. In some lights it looks almost steel blue, but it has just that bit of green that was perfect for our kitchen. The base is a nice powder-coat type of black, and it looks like it will hold up well. The swivel and adjustable height mechanisms all work properly. The only drawback to these chairs is that they are not quite as heavy as I would like. It's a minor criticism, but is the reason I rated these four stars. But considering how much they cost, it's a good buy all around.
