A wire crate in the middle of the living room always looks like a wire crate. This one reads as furniture first, with a white finish and a wide flat top that holds a lamp, a couple of small plants, or a few picture frames. It works as a side table, an end table, or a nightstand, and the dog still gets a den underneath.
The medium size measures 32.5 inches long on the outside. Inside, the usable space runs 27.2 inches long by 20.1 inches wide by 23.6 inches high, and it is intended for dogs up to about 20 pounds. Measure your dog standing and lying down before ordering, because interior height is what most people misjudge. The whole piece weighs 29.8 pounds, so it stays put once you place it but you can still move it alone if you rearrange the room.
Construction combines wood with particleboard and iron wire. The wire gives the dog sight lines and air, and the wood carries the weight on top. Two doors let the dog come and go from either side, which matters when the crate sits against a wall or in a corner where only one approach is open. Adjustable feet take out the wobble on floors that are not perfectly level, and that is worth using rather than ignoring, since a rocking crate makes a nervous dog more nervous.
A wooden plate runs across the bottom so paws do not slip through and catch on wire. A cushion is included, which gives the dog a warmer surface than bare board and makes the crate somewhere the dog chooses to go rather than somewhere the dog gets put.
