Happy with our new futon!
Before deciding to buy this futon, I checked out the reviews and questions, which helped me a lot. We just put in new carpet and needed extra space in a guest room, so we replaced the full bed with this futon. I'd recommend laying everything out first to make sure you have all the pieces and to read through the instructions carefully (and definitely check out other people's experiences in the reviews). The wooden dowels mentioned in the hardware list were already connected to the back. Make sure you have enough room for assembly and double-check your measurements for where it’ll go. A quick note: the instructions say to leave the side bolts loose, and I mean loose, or you’ll struggle getting the back deck into the arms. We thought we had it, but needed to tweak it a bit. It took us about 4 hours to get it together, and I'm 62 with limited strength from recent shoulder surgery, plus my husband is 74. You can probably subtract about 45 minutes of arguing from that time! If you focus, I think you could finish it in a couple of hours. It does take two people to open and close it, but that’s not an issue since we’ll only use it occasionally. We both think it’s quite comfortable to sit on in sofa mode, and lying down is comfy too. The side tables on the arms are a nice touch. I’m planning to add a queen-size fiber bed on top for sleeping. Overall, it’s a sturdy and attractive piece of furniture!

Best futon I've ever had!
I'm really glad I ignored the negative reviews and went for this futon. Everything arrived earlier than expected—got the frame first, and the mattress showed up the next day, all in condition. It took me about three hours to put it together, but I was just taking my time, sipping some wine, and watching TV while doing it. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, just remember to leave everything a bit loose as you go. I only had to turn each bolt three times, and it all turned out great. I was a little confused on the last step, but I figured it out without too much trouble. Moving it into couch position is a bit challenging; I'm 25 and still had some trouble, but it's manageable alone. The frame feels sturdy, and the mattress is just the color I wanted. I spent a lot of time worrying about the color, but it doesn’t matter much since I got some sheets for it. I needed this for my smaller bedroom, and it's comfy to sleep on! The mattress is firm yet cozy for me, which is since I'm not a fan of hard beds. It looks and works just as described! I'm so happy with this purchase and would recommend it!

I’m really happy with the futon I bought. At first, I thought putting it together would be tough, but it turned out to be simple thanks to the color-coded parts that matched up with everything. I really like this couch. The frame feels solid and the mattress is comfy. It was pretty straightforward to put together; took me roughly an hour. Hawkins Woodshop shipped it in multiple boxes without notifying me about the second shipment. I reached out to Colby, and he got back to me quickly with the tracking info for the other package. One thing to note: while the couch is nice, the futon mattress isn't quite what I expected. The cover is sewn onto the mattress, so I can’t remove it. It's just some tightly packed filling. My pet had an accident on it, and I’m finding it a bit tricky to clean the futon.

Make sure you’ve got enough space for putting it together and that you’ve measured where it's going to go. The instructions say to leave the side bolts loose—make sure they are loose, or you’ll have trouble fitting the back deck into the arms. We thought we had them loose enough, but had to make some adjustments. It took us about four hours to put it together. I’m 62 and recovering from shoulder surgery, and my husband is 74, but we managed to get it done. Add in around 45 minutes of bickering! If you stay focused, I think a couple of hours is doable. It does take two people to open and close it, but that's fine since it'll be used occasionally. We're both pleased with how it feels in sofa position and it’s comfy for both of us when lying down too. The side table arms are a great touch. I have a queen-size fiber bed to put on top for sleeping. Overall, it’s a nice and sturdy addition to our home!
