Great Beds with Some Tips for Assembly

Thanks to everyone who shared their assembly tips! They really saved us from potential headaches. Here’s what I learned: read the instructions carefully first. If you’re using these as bunk beds, make sure the upper rails with the most holes are facing down—trust me, the extra hole is needed for the ladder. Also, a lot of folks mentioned how tricky it is to put in the little gray tabs that help stabilize the slats. Just so you know, one end of the tab is flush while the other has a bit of space. The flush end should go next to the rail; we were struggling until my husband caught that. One clever reviewer suggested using tape or padding on channel locks to push the tabs in without scratching the rails—a great idea! I saw comments about people getting similar beds from Walmart for less, but those look just like these and are the same price. The cheaper ones may be the ones that feel shaky, but this Walker Edison set is so sturdy and doesn’t rattle at all! I like that the ladder is adjustable, and the wraparound upper rail makes it easy to change sheets. The shipping from Hawkins Woodshop was quick and they arrived on time. My only issue was with UPS; they didn’t ring the doorbell and just left the box in the carport, which was annoying. Luckily, we found everything intact. The hardware came neatly organized, and we thought we were missing some bedpost caps initially, but they were already installed. Assembly takes a bit of time, but if you take it slow, it’s manageable. I’d recommend these beds to friends or family. They’re a great deal!

Great bunk beds for the price

This bed is exactly what we needed and a good deal too! It's set up on a hard floor, and storage bins fit perfectly underneath. The bunks have enough space for my teenage son to sit up comfortably in either bed. He’s 14 and assembled it himself for him and his little brother, and the steps were pretty straightforward. We went with thinner mattresses, and we realized we should've added a board under them right from the start. The metal bars started to bend and were loud until we laid some plywood on top; now it's much sturdier and quiet. I really like the simple design, and the horizontal bars on the head and footboards are great for hanging things. Plus, I appreciate that it can be used as two separate beds or stacked as a bunk bed. The black finish looks sharp in my boys' room and has held up well without any scratches. Overall, it’s just what we were looking for.

Surprisingly Sturdy and Well Made

I was a bit unsure looking at the pictures, but this turned out to be a great buy. It's really solid and well put together. I'm over 200 lbs, and my partner mentioned that the upper bunk barely shifted when I tested it out. I even moved around a bit, and it feels sturdy. We're happy with it!

GREAT VALUE FOR THE PRICE, BUT BE READY FOR A CHALLENGE ASSEMBLING

I was hesitant to buy bunk beds online after a local furniture shop left us hanging for a week. With four adult-sized guests on the way, I needed a solution fast. We decided on two sets of the beds along with four 6” mattresses. We managed to put one set together the night it arrived and tackled the second set in the morning. You really need two people for assembly unless you have a bunch of books or ladders to hold up the other end while you work. The instructions were decent, but I’ve got to shout out the other customers for their helpful tips in their reviews. Those insights made a real difference during assembly! We had no issues with the pieces lining up with the pre-drilled holes. A few of the mattress support rods were a bit long, but we adjusted them until they fit. The ladder installation was a bit tricky and could have been explained better in the directions. The plastic squares for the assembly were a bit of a nightmare to deal with; they worked eventually, but they were tough on my fingers, especially since I have arthritis. Thankfully, I had help! The second bed went together in half the time of the first. After a creative assembly adventure and using them for about two weeks now, I'm happy with how sturdy and stable the beds are. They were worth the price!

So glad I went for this bed!

I was really unsure about buying this bed after reading some negative reviews, especially since my kid's safety is my top priority. But the positive feedback was way more than the bad, so I decided to take the plunge. I'm happy I did—it’s solid quality and a great deal. As for the complaints about the instructions and assembly time, I think people are being a bit unfair. The instructions were pretty clear, and I had no problems at all—just follow the steps and pay attention to the pictures. It took me about 2 and a half hours to put it together by myself, which might seem long, but with all the pieces involved, I think I did alright. It's a bunk bed, so some patience is necessary. Here are a couple of tips: 1. When attaching the upper cross bar marked 'Part H', make sure the small screw holes are facing down. If you get that wrong, you won’t be able to fit the ladder and you’ll have to take it apart up to that point. 2. For little ones, I’d recommend using a mattress no thicker than 8”. We got the Signature Sleep Contour 8” mattress, and it works great, leaving 6” from the top of the mattress to the guardrail. Overall, the bed feels sturdy. My 6-year-old sleeps up top and my 3-year-old is on the bottom. I've even laid down on the bottom bunk without any problems, and I weigh 210 lbs. Honestly, I think a lot of the negative feedback is probably due to mistakes on the user's part. Just take your time and don’t rush through the setup!

GREAT VALUE FOR THE PRICE, BUT BE PREPARED FOR INTENSE ASSEMBLY

I was hesitant to buy bunk beds online, but after dealing with a local family furniture store that left us high and dry, I didn't have many choices. With four adult guests on the way and no beds, we ordered two sets along with four 6" mattresses. We managed to put together the first set the night it arrived and tackled the second one the next morning. Assembly really needs two people… unless you have a ton of books or ladders to help prop things up! The instructions were fine, but honestly, the tips from other customers were even more helpful. Huge thanks to everyone who took the time to share their experiences! That advice made a big difference during assembly. We had no issues with the pieces aligning with the predrilled holes, though a couple of the mattress support rods were slightly too long, which we adjusted without much trouble. The ladder part was a bit tricky and could've used clearer instructions. And those little plastic squares... Wow, what a struggle! They worked out in the end, but I’d love to know who decided on that design. Even with a flat tool, they were tough on my fingers, especially since I have arthritis. Thankfully, we got the second bed together much quicker! After a solid two weeks of use, I'm happy with how sturdy and stable the beds are; they were worth it for the price. My fingers are back to normal too!

Solid product with some assembly tips

My experience was pretty much like what others have shared. The shipping was fast, even with the weight of 100 lbs. I appreciated the heads-up from previous reviewers about the #H piece—avoiding that mistake was a win for me. I did mess up one of the bottom cross bars, but it was easy to spot once I tried to attach the additional feet. The whole assembly took me about 2 and a half hours. I struggled a bit with locking in those 44 cross slats. My fingers aren’t as strong, so I had to get creative with inserting the locking tabs. I broke a few trying to hammer them down. I eventually used wood and vise grips to protect the frame, which was slow going. The best trick I found was to lock one side of the tab and then gently push the other side down with a piece of wood, which worked much better. If I had discovered that method earlier, it would have saved some time! Overall, I'm really happy with the final product. It looks great, feels sturdy, and it's well-made. My 7-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son love it!
