Solid simple choice

Solid bed, takes a little effort to put it together but I was able to do to it alone. Looks good. Lifts easy and isn't super noisy. So far so good

Worth it

Great bed for the price. Pay attention to position of parts by how many holes are positioned and where on instruction pictures, we used a drill on slow speed. Hardware was somewhat hard to get together but the end result was a great product. Arrived earlier than expected. Velcow parts are not specified on instructions. One peice is your back on headboard, look at the other piece that goes as a backboard and it will make sense which way to put it so it velcows together. I would recommend. Took us 4 or 5 hours to assembly with 2 people but we took our time making sure each step was correct and some steps took time. Great storage. Very cozy and quality.

Great value

If you're shopping for this kind of storage bed, chances are you already know about the features. I'm just going to go into the reasons about why I chose this bedframe over some of the others.1) Eco friendly. Most of the other listings on Hawkins Woodshop make no mention of California Prop-65 compliance. Considering a lot of cheap furniture contain a plethora of toxic chemicals released during offgassing and use, this was a big concern of mine. The Hawkins Woodshop listing states the mdf is eco friendly. When the box arrived I noticed it states “California 93120 Compliant for Formaldehyde Phase 2”. The bedframe did offgass/have a slight odor similar to "wet plywood" (likely the mdf), but nothing overpowering. I proactively kept my ac and exhaust vent running for about a week to remove any residual odors and I no longer detect any odors or offensive smells with the ac and exhaust vent fan turned off (otherwise I would get rid of the bed). I've attached photos of the box and fromaldehyde compliance.2) Cost. A pop-up storage bed from West Elm (Andes) goes for over 2k. I'm done with spending that kind of money on furniture if I can help it. This bed was very affordable for all of the included features that you get.3) Storage. I wanted a storage bed with a pop-up mattress feature and concealed storage in the headboard. At the time I bought this, there were only 1 or 2 other alternatives with that specific combination of features on Hawkins Woodshop and I preferred the Fameill brand design aesthetic more than the others. I have a tiny room so storage drawers were not an option and I didn't want a bunch of stuff visibly stored on the headboard. Plus raising the mattress allows you to store more items underneath than storage drawers would allow.4) Quality. I was hoping the bed frame was mostly metal (and it is), but the metal attaches to mdf for support - I thought the fabric covered mdf was just a part of the facade. Regardless, the slats are made of metal which imo is more durable than wood slats. The bed and headboard do not feel loose or move around when you throw yourself onto the bed after a long day. I currently have a 1st Generation Tempur Pedic memory foam mattress sitting directly on the slats and surprisingly I have not needed to add a bunkie board underneath. The weight of the memory foam mattress is very heavy so if I add a heavy comforter and any other items the hydraulic arms are not strong enough to keep the bed in the raised position. However, without the heavy comforter, it will stay raised just fine.5. Ambiance. The led lights are a nice feature which provides nice mood lighting. I prefer the soft white color setting as a night light, but it's nice to have the range of colors if you want to switch things up. Things to consider:Storage height underneath the mattress is approx. 9.75 inches (see photo). If you try to force something 10" underneath, it will probably not be enough to space unless you modify the storage height yourself with risers or something. Also, I chose not to install the black liner in the storage area underneath because I prefer to easily vaccum/clean under the bed without having dust attach to the black liner. I've noticed people saying the hydraulic arms won't move directly out of the box. If the hydraulic arms are hard to move while assembling the bedframe, just attach it to the frame first and then add your mattress on top to shut it. They are supposed to be hard to move, if you could easily move them then they wouldn't be strong enough to raise/lower the mattress. Yes the box is heavy, I would be concerned about how long the bedframe would last if it were light weight. It arrives packaged in one box which is convenient... I was initially worried that I only received part of the order because the box seemed too small! But everything was included. Definitely use some sort of power tool rather than tighten all the bolts by hand! Overall I'm very satisfied with my purchase. For this price (under 300), it's a steal!

Putting it together is no joke but…

So as a few others have said you found this so I can assume you know what the basic features are and what you want to know is if they’re really practical: they are! Every review mentions the building difficulties and let me tell you: the struggle to get this thing together was real! I did time it (stopping timing for breaks and whatnot) and it took me alone 5 hours and 21 minutes. I will also add that I do kinda have some building skills and am decent with these types of directions so… I do recommend a second person and a good chunk of time set aside for the project. Building it where it will end up is also a solid idea as this bed is by no means lightweight or not sturdy. It’s basically a metal frame with a solid facade around the whole thing. Both the lifting of the mattress (to get underside) and the hinges on the headboard storage area are solidly well designed and I have few worries about them holding up for a while. Okay so some other things: there is a little “catch bar” at the head of the frame so that your mattress doesn’t slide with the opening. I have a purple plus queen 11’ on this thing and it fits perfectly (no gap between the headboard and mattress, but also it’s not being squished in between). The hydraulics are good enough to lift and hold the mattress (without any blankets). If you leave a heavy blanket on, it won’t hold it up, but you will still have a bit of an assist of lift still. It’s a bit hard to pull the thing up admitidly (though if it was too easy I do feel like it would be a problem so I don’t find it an issue, though kids/teens would probably need help). I got this because I have a smaller space/half office/room set up going and I needed the storage both under the bed and in the headboard. There are a lot of options with drawers (you loose like A lot of storage) but epic headboard storage, or the good hydraulic lift option but literally no headboard storage. Some of the other options out there seemed good but I worried about them holding up over time and this one time and time again just looked good despite the time it takes to put together. It’s honestly seeming like one of the best bed frames I’ve had and it was so inexpensive compared to some of the others I’ve had (I’ve had two ikea frames and this feels like it will last as long as those solid wood frames did). I’m in az and had an estimated delivery date of 8 days later and I got mine in 4 days. The box is literally the full bed so it’s well over 120 lbs. Just do it. It’s practical. Durable. Functional. A pain in the butt but well made and thought through. Pack your patience for this project. Put aside some time. Don’t tighten everything until you’ve gotten most of it together because everything does line up but it needs some wiggle room. (I’ll also add I didn’t install the lights because I just didn’t and I’m still obsessed!)

Awesome - sturdy - practical - well designed - well built quite an effort (enjoyable) to assemble.

This is an awesome product. You know what you are getting for the price high end mid level furniture. Not an heirloom but a very nice attractive useful piece. Shipped to the door and mattress shipped to the door is an awesome concept with one small issue. I am a mechanic and love this stuff and it took me a solid 8 hours to assemble I don't mean in an 8 hour period I mean 8 hours of work over 2 days. Very few will build and sleep on it the same night If you love puzzles and model kits this is for you. Great organization all parts fit perfect clear instructions minimal tools but don't let this be your first project it takes some inherited skills. I enjoyed it. That said we love it. Sturdy the bottom touches the floor so no cats can get under and my cats seem to have no desire to use it as a scratching post. All issues seem to be pre thought out. I would highly recommend but do not send it to your daughters dorm unless you know someone to assemble it. We also purchased the nitestands -review is the same-great but a lot of effort to assemble.
