13-Gallon Stainless Steel Step Trash Can, Soft-Close Lid, Black

Thirteen gallons is the size most people land on once they get tired of hauling a bag out every other night. That is 50 liters of interior volume, enough for a normal household week between curbside runs, and the tall build takes that capacity vertically instead of sprawling across your kitchen floor.

The body is stainless steel finished in black, so it resists rust and wipes down with a damp cloth when something drips. A non-slip pad on the base keeps the can planted when you step on the pedal rather than skidding it into the cabinet. That pedal is 7.8 inches wide, which matters more than it sounds like it should. A wide pedal means you can hit it with the side of a shoe, a slipper, or a bare heel without looking down first.

The lid does two things well. It closes softly and quietly instead of clapping shut, which is the difference between taking the trash out at 11 at night and waking the house up. And it stays open when you want it to. Swing it up by hand to the catch point and it holds there, which is what you need when you are breaking down leftovers or cleaning out the fridge with both hands full. A carbon filter sits inside the lid to absorb odors before they reach the room. The rim of the lid grips the liner bag and hides the edges, so you do not end up with plastic drooping over the sides every time someone throws something away. Handles on the back give you something to grab when the can needs to move so you can sweep behind it.

It ships with 15 liner bags sized for 12 to 14.5 gallons, so it goes into service the day the box arrives.
