I really enjoy the thick cushions and the wicker-like look of these chairs, but they only held up for about 10 minutes before I ran into an issue. The swivel plate bends open if anyone leans back, which sends ball bearings spilling onto the patio. I get that leaning back isn't ideal, but it feels natural for guests to want to relax a bit. I even tried swapping out the swivel plate for a sturdier one, but that didn’t hold up either since the connection just can’t handle that kind of pressure. What ended up working for me was picking up four 3 1/2 inch bolts from the hardware store to permanently connect the top and bottom of the chair where the swivel plate was. It means no more swiveling, but now it's a comfy rocking chair. When someone leans back, they’re supported by the entire chair structure instead of just the weak swivel. So, I still like the chair overall, but it's not without its design flaws that needed a bit of fixing.

Sturdy and Beautiful Piece
When our furniture arrived, we used the instructions to put it together, and it took us about 1-2 hours with two people. Everything we needed was included, which was great. It went together really well and feels solid and looks beautiful. I think we’ll enjoy this for many years. I'd purchase from Hawkins Woodshop again.

Update:Hillga reached out to me and offered a full refund, but since I like the chairs I didn't take them up on it. They sent me a replacement swivel plate they had developed to fix this issue and I installed the new swivel plate which has a more robust connection and so far it has not broken. They sent me another swivel plate for my other chair also. The chair had a design flaw, and Hillga did everything to fix it and keep me a happy customer. I wish all company's customer service was this good. The problem is the swivel plate which will bend open if anyone tries to lean back in the chair -- ball bearings start to plink, plink, plink out of the swivel plate onto the patio. I know, just don't do that. But for a chair that rocks it seemed natural for my guests to lean back a little to relax. I tried replacing the swivel plate with a stonger version of what was shipped, but it didn't last either. The middle section connnecting the 2 swivel plates just aren't made for that kind of pressure. My solution was to go the hardware store to purchase four 3 1/2 inch bolts to connect the top and bottom of the chair together permanently through the holes made for the swivel plate. No more swivelling, but now the chair works as a comfortable rocking chair. When a guest leans back, they are restricted by the base of the entire chair and not just a single point of failure in the swivel plate. So, I still like the chair, but it has a design flaw that requires a little work to repair.
