Simple headboard that's quick to put together

Got this pretty fast and it showed up in good shape. Assembly was straightforward—took me no time at all. Came with extra hardware which was nice, and everything was packed carefully so nothing got dinged up during shipping. Happy with how simple the design is and the quality for what you're paying. Would definitely buy from Hawkins Woodshop again.

Grey finish looks fantastic

Really happy with how this looks. The headboard has a clean, simple design that's exactly what I was going for. I mounted it on the wall above my electric bed using just some Gorilla Wall putty squares—seriously, 30 seconds of pressure and it was secure. I've checked the hold a few times when changing sheets and it's holding up great so far.

Good value, quick to install and looks clean

Needed a headboard for our guest room bed frame and didn't want to spend a fortune. Lots of pricey options out there, and the DIY stuff seemed either too complicated or way over budget. Decided to take a chance on this one and really happy we did. Got it out of the box and installed in under 35 minutes. One tip though—take the mattress off the frame first, makes it way easier. Also pay close attention to the direction sheet pictures and line up the leg holes correctly, it matters. If you lose a screw or peg no biggie, they throw in extras. Once it's put together it feels solid, though keep in mind it's only screwed to the frame so don't try to move the bed by the headboard or it'll pull loose. Treat it right and it should hold up fine. The look is clean and simple, which is exactly what we wanted. Fair warning—it shipped from China and had some gunk in one of the leg cutouts that might have been a bug, so wipe everything down before you put it together.

Exactly What I Needed

This headboard is exactly what I wanted—simple, clean look with nice finished wood. It comes with a spare set of all the hardware you need: screws, dowels, washers, and the allen wrench too. Assembly instructions have both pictures and text. Found an older review on here that was really helpful about putting it together without the instructions, and the dowels do slide in smoothly. The legs attached to the headboard pretty easily once I made sure everything was oriented the right way. My bed is 24 inches high with the mattress platform, and the headboard sits at 37 inches at its tallest, which looks right for what I wanted—just keeping pillows from falling and making the bed look more finished. There are three sets of holes on each end of the back so you can set the legs at different heights, and each leg has two screw holes plus two dowel holes. I did have to grab a bed hook kit separate since that's not included. One thing—there's a charger that comes with it that I wasn't planning to use, and I think I may have tossed it with the packing stuff before realizing. The headboard is made in Vietnam and arrived well packaged with zero damage.

Good

It's on the shorter side. I have it on a queen bed and once I put my decorative pillows on there, it pretty much gets hidden. Defeats the purpose a bit. That said, the quality is solid.

Great price, quick to set up

We were looking for a headboard for our metal bed frame to complete our guest room. There were so many pricey options out there, and the DIY ones were either complicated or cost over $100. This one was a good deal, so we decided to go for it, and I'm really glad we did! It took us less than 35 minutes to unbox and set it up. One tip: take the mattress off the frame to make installation easier. Also, be sure to pay close attention to the instruction pictures and align the holes correctly; it makes a big difference. They even include an extra screw and peg in case you drop one. Once it's up, it feels sturdy, but just a heads up—some might try to move the bed from the headboard, which is only attached by a few screws to the frame. If we take care of it, it should last a while. The best part is the sleek, contemporary look of the low headboard. Just keep in mind that it’s made in China, and I noticed some residue in the leg cutout that looked a bit questionable, so give it a good clean before putting it together.

love it

This was just what we were looking for in a king size. It arrived right at our door, which was perfect since we couldn't transport it ourselves. Ordering online was convenient. It was also easy to attach to our bed frame.

No need to drill holes!

This headboard is solid, and I really like the finish on all its sides. Just a tip: it's pretty low, so measure your mattress and frame height before settling on one of the two height settings. Some mattresses cover the low setting completely. Assembly is straightforward, but tricky without directions—mine didn't come with any. First off, make sure you have the headboard oriented correctly; the top has a slightly bigger gap between the first hole and the edge than the bottom does. If it seems like you need to drill new holes, you probably just have it upside down. Also, check that the legs are facing the right way; the side with more holes goes against the headboard. The slots for connecting to the frame should be on the outside, while the screw holes go on the inside. This should work whether your frame uses hooks or screws. When putting it together, the correct order for the screws is: screw, lock washer, and then regular washer—just screw them in until they're snug. The lock washers won't flatten completely, so don’t worry about that. Don’t forget to insert the wooden dowels into the legs—make sure to push them in more than halfway. If you don’t, they can bulge out or even crack the headboard, which isn’t ideal. They only gave me two dowels, but that’s fine since mine won’t be under much strain. If yours might be, think about getting extra dowels for extra stability. Using wood glue with them can help, too. Also, remember that uneven flooring can affect height. My frame is on a rug, so I had to add pads to the headboard legs so they wouldn’t just hang by the screws. I learned that the hard way after everything was set up!

Just What I was Looking For.

This headboard is just what I was looking for a simple, clean design made of beautiful finished wood. You get 1 spare for all the screws, dowels, washers and even the allen wrench. The directions consist of pictures and text. There is one Hawkins Woodshop review on this posted 9-22-2016 titled “No, you don’t need to drill” that I found very helpful as he detailed his experience in assembling this headboard without instructions that was very helpful. (The dowels fit very easily in their holes.) It was easy to put together the legs to the headboard making sure I had the legs and headboard facing the right way. My mattress with the mattress platform is 24 inches high and the assembled headboard at it's tallest height (37 inches) in relation to my bed is fine. (I just want something to keep my pillow from falling off the bed and to give the bed a more finished look.) There are three sets of two holes at each end of the back of the headboard to allow the legs to be set at two different heights with each leg having two screw holes and two holes for the dowels. I had to buy a bed hook kit as that is not included with the headboard. (I just ordered from the same company that made my bedframe.) I was not planning on installing the charger, but might have thrown it out with the box as I was not looking for it until the packing materials were long gone. The headboard is made in Vietnam and it came packed well with no damage.

No, you don't need to drill

It's solid and the finish is great on all sides. It is a low headboard so measure your frame height and mattresses first and compare that to the two height options of the headboard, especially considering how thick some mattresses can be. The low setting is quite low and might even get completely covered by some mattresses. It's simple to assemble, but easy to make mistakes if you don't have instructions. Mine didn't. First, there's a top and bottom to the headboard. This sounds obvious, but the gap between the first hole and the edge on the top is a little less than 2" while the gap between the bottom edge and the first hole (first relative to the edge) is somewhat less than 1". It's not that much difference that you can be sure. Plus, some of the holes will line up perfectly with those on the legs, making it look like it should be that way. But, if it looks like this - like there was a manufacturing mistake - and like you need to drill a few new holes.... No, that means that you have the headboard upside down. Rotate it and everything works. Second, make sure the legs are oriented correctly. Of course, the side with lots of holes is the side that connects with the headboard. Also, the slots that connect to the frame should be on the outer side, screw holes on the inner side. This works for frames that use slot/hook connections or screws. Third, since the screws are not going through to the other side, the sequence is: screw, lock washer (the split ring thing), regular washer. Just insert and screw until tight. For those unfamiliar, the lock washer will not fully flatten. Finally, insert the wooden dowels (with or without glue) into the legs and shove them in more than half way. If you don't shove them down enough or insert them into the headboard first, it's very easy to have them create a bulge or even crack the other side, defacing the headboard. No, the headboard is not thick enough to prevent this and the pegs will not move sooner than the wood will bulge.... I was only given two dowel pegs. This is enough for mine since the headboard is not going to take any real strain being against a wall. If yours might, measure the ones given and get a couple more - they're not expensive and they add a lot to stability. Use wood glue on both sides of the pegs/holes when inserting them. Also, be aware of things like differences in height because of levelers/uneven flooring. My frame is actually on a rug while the legs of the headboard are not, so I had to put pads on them so they would support their own weight and not hang by the screws. Did not realize this until everything was fully assembled - no fun at all to get those in place.

Easy to put together no tools required

As pictured. Very easy to put together no tools required. I’m a woman who absolutely hates doing anything like this, and I was able to do it alone so if I can do it literally anyone can do it.
