Sturdy and functional futon
I’m pretty pleased with this futon and pad. It looks nice and has a solid feel to it. While I haven't actually slept on it yet, I’ve sat and laid on it in the sofa position. I’m 5’7”, and my feet do dangle a bit, so a stool or ottoman might be good for some folks. It’s firm but comfy, and I’ve got a memory foam mattress pad handy for any overnight guests. Putting it together was a bit challenging because of the weight and multiple steps, but I managed to handle it all by myself. I’ve got some mechanical skills and tools, so I used my drill to save my arms when securing everything. I remember needing a Square-drive bit and Phillips bit for the screws. Just a heads up, the drawers are on floor rollers and just sit there, which I’m fine with. Even without the drawers, the futon looks great. The end tables can fold up or down, but you’ll want to make sure you have space away from the wall. The tufts are made of brown plastic bars instead of buttons, which could be more comfortable for lying on. I needed something for my second bedroom, and it arrived in a few big and heavy boxes. I’m in my sixties and had to put it together by myself, so I think I might be a bit stronger than most women my age! Unfolding it to lay flat isn’t too tough, but getting it back to the sofa shape is a bit harder—I’ve seen videos where they kinda punch down the fold to make it easier. I probably won't do that every day, but it definitely meets my needs. It was a bit pricey, but it feels right in line with similar futons.

Great addition for our space
We got this for our new room since we needed some seating and also wanted an extra bed for when family visits. I'm 71, and I managed to put most of it together myself, though I did need a little help attaching the bed frame to the base. It came with one piece of hardware missing, and there was a crack in the wood on one side. I reached out to Hawkins Woodshop on a Friday evening, and they got back to me first thing Monday. They shipped out the replacements right away, which really impressed me! Quick and friendly service. As for the futon, it was for Thanksgiving when everyone came over! It's comfy and looks nice in the room. Putting it together was straightforward, and it feels solid. We've had guests sleep on it, and they said it was comfortable. My only issue is that while it’s easy for one person to turn it into a bed, getting it back to a couch takes a second person to help lift the back. Overall, I'm happy with this purchase!
