Christmas Gingerbread House Doormat, Pastel Pink, 23.6 x 13.7 in.

Most Christmas doormats go straight to red and green. This one takes the pastel route instead, a gingerbread house rendered in soft pink and green with a watercolor style pattern and a snowy roof. It is cheerful without being loud, which is the difference between a mat you enjoy walking past every day in December and one you are tired of by the second week.

The mat measures 23.6 by 13.7 inches, roughly 35 by 60 centimeters, and weighs about 1.1 pounds. That footprint suits a front step, a back door, a shower entrance, or the strip of floor in front of a kitchen sink. It is machine made from artificial coir, an imitation coconut fiber, flat woven into a rectangle with a non slip surface underfoot. It is firmer than a bath rug and easier on bare feet than real coconut coir, which is what makes it usable indoors as well as out.

It is rated for both indoor and outdoor use and is stain resistant, though it is not water resistant, so a covered porch suits it better than a step that takes rain head on. Cleaning is easy. It can be machine washed and it dries quickly, which matters during a muddy stretch of winter weather.

One thing to expect on arrival. The mat ships rolled, so it may sit unevenly at first. Set a few heavy books on it overnight and it flattens out. That is normal and does not affect how it wears. The package contains one mat, and it rolls back up small enough to store without giving up a shelf in January. It also makes a low cost, genuinely useful gift for someone who starts decorating early.
