Beautiful Desk with Thoughtful Features

Solid & Sturdy
I have had several piece now of solid wood furniture made from rubber wood. It is becoming a resource that has been untapped as far as I know for some time. Rubberwood comes from the rubber tree and is considered a hardwood. So, this is not as soft as pine and is a great deal better than the mdf or pressed particle board that is laminated. They harvest these trees after about 30 years of farming the sap for rubber and latex. That is when it stops being as productive. So, this is a “green” resource, no pun intended. I love that it has a power station built in for ac outlets and usb port chargers. They are slow chargers so there is no worry about damaging any of your devices. If you need it to be stronger you can use your own ac blocks to power more powerful chargers. The design of the ac outlets on the power station allow for those bigger blocks to go in so that they do not interfere with each other’s spacing. The drawers are a decent size given the size of the desk. Overall, for a small Solid Wood Desk, I think this is a great deal and value on sale.

Nice Little Desk
I ordered this desk to use in my 3D printing shop in my basement. I just needed somewhere to put a laptop and a few other things I use as part of that hobby, and this little desk with two small drawers seemed like the perfect solution. It's solid wood, big enough for the laptop, a keyboard, a mouse, and a little room left for a work area, and it has a power strip with usb charger built in. The good:It's solid wood. Not particle board or mdf, but real lumber. It's not grain-matched high dollar oak, but appears to be either white oak or alder, and it has a nice even finish on it. There are some areas where the mismatched grain shows up, but at the price I wasn't expecting fine furniture. It's sturdy, and it won't disintegrate if it gets dripped on. Assembly was simple. The instructions are minimal, but complete. The desk is mostly pre-assembled, and you have only to attach the four legs using eight bolts into the pre-installed threaded inserts. I used a small power driver to run the bolts in, because they're long and I'm lazy, and then tightened them with the included hex wrench. Don't use an impact driver, and be careful not to over tighten, or you could loosen the threaded inserts. Then attach the headphone hanger on the end, if desired, stick the felt pads to the bottoms of the legs, and turn the desk upright. The drawers are on fairly solid glides, roll smoothly, and have integral "catches" to hold them closed. The power strip and usb charging ports are handy. But now I have to do some cable management... Kinda wish they had hidden it under the back of the desk, but having it on the end is more convenient if you need to access the outlets frequently. The finish is nice and even, with no apparent thin spots or runs. The desk really does look nice. The bad: (i. E. I have to find some nits to pick)The drawers are small, and do not extend fully, so getting to items in the back can be difficult. They're also not very deep, but they're great for notepads, pens, and other desk supplies. I hate Styrofoam. The desk is well packed, but I spent almost as much time getting the little flakes of packing foam off of it as I did assembling it. I actually vacuumed it three times. The grain is mismatched in some areas. Again, at this price, this is a very minor complaint. The wood is clearly not the highest grade, but it's solid, and the veneer looks fine overall. The "headphone hanger" is just a knob that attaches to the end of the desk. I almost left it off, but I didn't want to leave the empty hole. Summary:If you're in need of a small, sturdy desk, this one will serve you well. It's solid, looks nice, and has two drawers to hide your junk. My biggest concern is that it's really too nice to keep in my basement, so I'm resisting the urge to move it upstairs.

Great compact desk

I actually got this as a sewing table that I could leave my sewing machine up on all the time, instead of having to drag it out and put it away, every time I used it. I love it! It is sturdy, solid, well made and large enough so that I have plenty of room for my machine, a clip on lamp, and whatever I am working on, as well that I can plug everything in right at the desk. I love that it is solid real wood, and not something glued together and full of toxic fumes. I also love that I could put it together myself, and that it was easy, with clear instructions and everything I needed. While it costs more than some desks on Hawkins Woodshop, it is definitely worth the extra money as it will last, as well as look good for a lot longer than a desk made of glued wood shavings will! With this desk, you won't be replacing it every year or two! Definitely a good value for the cost!
