Great Storage Solution for Stuffed Animals!
This stuffed animal zoo from Hawkins Woodshop holds so much! I wanted something that was simple to put together, looked nice, and was a good deal, and this product hit the mark on all counts! I'm planning to get a second one because we're using a bulky bean bag chair for storage now, and it takes up too much space in my son's small room. Getting this will free up some room for his toys. It took me some time to assemble this, but I’ve had it in my daughter’s room for a few months now, and I really love it! It keeps her toys off the floor, yet they're easily accessible. Look at the instructions before starting...
You truly want to look at the instructions before beginning. Start with the wheels and work your way up. The wheels and base pieces are unique. The base pieces interlock with the wheels, they are counterstrike into those pieces, the rest are identical to themselves on the way with no notches for middle wood cross pieces, and no deepest hole for the screws to be seated in. Easy to put together when starting at the bottom, took about 15 minutes total including sorting and test fitting a few things. My package had 1 extra double sided screw, otherwise I had correct number of parts. Elastic strings I knotted and fed up from bottom to the top then over 1 and back down, then over 1 and back up. You could cut each of these so they are single up and down lines, but i prefer the increased elasticity of 1 sting 4 holes. The lines do need to be taut but we're not strapping down 3 tons of steel with it either, so just go easy on how tightly you string it. This project could be painted easily, if you plan to do that just put zip lock baggies over the wheels when painting, but wait to put elastic strings on till painting is completely dry. They include battery operated lights with this shaped to look like bees, but im using it for my dog to use as a toy box and do not want to give him anything that might get loose or become a chewy toy for him.

But once you get started, everything fits together very intuitively. The instructions could definitely be better, especially for the elastic cord portion, which is almost like an afterthought. I actually made a short video to show others how to do that part since it wasn’t clear from the one-page manual. The materials feel solid, and the finished product is sturdy and stable. For a price around $40, the quality feels right on par as all the wood pieces come perfectly cut, sanded smooth, and finished in a natural wood tone that looks clean.
