Just wanted to share my first impressions of this mini PC I got for my home media server. I was upgrading from an older model, so I was hopeful this would be an improvement. I was a bit anxious since it’s my first mini PC, and I'd read some mixed reviews about booting from USB, but no worries—it booted up just fine! When I first powered it on, I struggled a bit with accessing the BIOS, but I figured out that you have to be quick about it. Once I got in, I checked to see if Hyper-V was enabled (it was!) and set USB booting. Before I knew it, I'd installed Server 2022 Datacenter on it. It boots quickly, handles everything smoothly, and is super efficient with resources. I'm planning to use it as my Domain Controller, DNS, media server, VPN, and VM box, and I think it's going to manage all of that without a hitch. This thing is tiny and extremely quiet; you can hardly hear the fan! Great connectivity options, especially since I'll be using it headlessly. I did find it a bit surprising that it doesn't come with WiFi, but that’s not a dealbreaker for me since I wasn’t planning to use it that way. Honestly, I can’t think of any other issues. Many companies are entering the more and more crowded population of mini-pc makers. It makes sense, of course, because the age of mainframes ended long ago and the day of full-size atx towers is pretty much over. This means that most PCs today, other than the most enthusiast grade of course, are miniaturizing and moving more towards the Micro-atx, Mini-itx and, of course, mini-pc standards. And why not? Multiple graphics cards are no longer a thing while advances in iGPUs, laptop hardware and cooling have allowed them to be repurposed into all-in-one PCs that do a little bit of everything, and at a level that makes it “good enough” for most people. What drew me the most to this pc specifically was the power under the hood and its looks. Let’s start with the look:Billed as a “retro” mini pc, this device takes 90% of its design and color cues from the original nes, which is awesome. So many mini-PCs sacrifice aesthetics of any kind in the drive for lower prices and turn into just boring black cubes. This one proudly says “Use me in your media center, show me off!”, which makes it a major contender for your home media pc or both retro gaming/emulation and even playing certain modern games at the right settings. When it comes to processing power, this pc doesn’t disappoint at all. While it only has 16Gb of ram, it’s more than enough for any games and apps outside of running a local llm – and if you’re trying run an llm on it, you’re barking up the wrong tree. While the cpu is powerful enough for basic npu tasks like localized Windows copilot, it’s not an ai machine, so definitely don’t treat it like one. What it is, is a home media pc, a plex server, a mini home lab or a esports gaming laptop. Esports titles like League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth and World of Warcraft run without a hitch on the system’s iGPU, pushing 120 fps on WoW tbc Anniversary and League without breaking a sweat. Honestly, the price/performance ration is absolutely great, and for this footprint you’d be hard-pressed to find anything as powerful or attractive. If you’re looking for a svelte mini-pc that can game well, you couldn’t do much better than this one. 5 stars!
